Making Money Online Forum

First up, let me clarify that I'm a HUGE Shane Carwin fan. The guy is a terrifying force in the Octagon. He's got his weak spots and limitations like any fighter, but I honestly believe he's the most potent offensive force in MMA today.

I am also a fan of the way he engages his fans online with his web site and twitter account. The guy has done a great job of marketing himself in many ways.

But let's cut the crap. Carwin is not doing himself any favors by pulling out of his UFC 125 fight against Roy Nelson. Unless his back is so severely injured that he has no choice but get the surgery he would be better off sucking it up, fighting hurt and getting the surgery after this fight if he still believes it to be necessary.

Why do I say this? Let me count the ways in the full entry.

UPDATE: From Shane-Carwin.com:

Update for my BE.com friends. I have been fighting injured for three years. I have done all of the things that "possibly could reduce the pain", in the end the problem continues to come back. I have spent a week getting treatments and the pain has been increasing. I really do not have a choice in the matter. Most managers need to milk all they can from fighters but mine is putting my interest ahead of what is best for him. That is actually a good thing.

I am getting a second opinion tonight but if he suggest surgery then I will be going that route. I have made up my mind that this is the likely outcome. With or without surgery I would face a 8-12 week recovery (no contact) time and not be ready for 125. My "options" are do surgery and repair it or spend 12 weeks recovering and apply a band aid and march on. I plan of fighting for a long time and while I may not be getting any younger I have certainly taken way less damage then anyone else in the UFC with as many fights as I have. Aside from Gonzaga breaking my nose I have not been hurt in any of my fights. So repairing my self so I can be at my best for the best part of my career is actually a really good idea.

To anyone questioning my ability to pass any test, I say bring it. I have and will always pass my test.

  1. Carwin himself says the surgery is optional.
That's not the kind of message to put out in a public forum. Dana White doesn't want to hear that. If Carwin needs to have the surgery, the thing to say is, "My fans know I wouldn't miss this fight if there were any other alternative, but I have to listen to the doctors and do what's best for my health."

  2. Dana White and the UFC NEED Shane Carwin on this card.
UFC 125 is headlined by Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard. As talented as those two fighters are, they are not major PPV draws. It's a sad fact that lightweight fights don't sell as well as heavyweight fights and Frankie Edgar is not a star like B.J. Penn who can overcome that. Not to mention that many fans consider both Edgar and Maynard to be boring fighters to watch. Then there's the utter lack of personality or smack talk from either Edgar or Maynard. Not a recipe for a big New Year's card. Shane Carwin vs Roy Nelson was the perfect co-main. Heavyweight contenders with awesome KO highlight reels. Carwin fought in one of the biggest PPVs in UFC history at UFC 116 and Nelson was featured on the highest rated season of TUF ever. Plus both guys are willing to talk smack and promote themselves.

  3. Shane is already likely on thin ice with the UFC.
Carwin got linked to a federal steroids prosecution after his UFC 116 fight. While Dana White didn't publicly pile on, that's not the kind of news he wants his fighters making. Not to mention the whole pre-UFC 116 controversy when Carwin and his manager Jason Genet told Bloody Elbow that they were limiting the amount of fight promotion Carwin would do for his title shot against Brock Lesnar to the bare minimum because they were not getting a % of the PPV money. They quickly retracted and attempted to burn our reporter when the UFC objected. Carwin's tweets last week about the UFC banning one of his sponsors couldn't have helped anything either. Things like that linger in the mind of Dana White. Ask Todd Duffee.

  4. Shane Carwin is older and near the peak of his athletic years.
Does Carwin really have the time to take off for a risky back surgery? Back surgeries are high risk and low reward propositions for athletes. They often don't work at all. Ask Tito Ortiz. Carwin needs to be striking while the iron is hot and keeping himself in the good graces of the UFC and in the forefront of fans' minds. The UFC heavyweight division has seemingly passed him by in the blink of an eye. Young studs like Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos are going to be out ruling the world while Carwin is sitting on the side lines.

In sum, despite his public attacks on me and this site, I wish Shane Carwin the best and strongly urge him to get new management that has his best interests at heart.

UPDATE: Let me clarify, the decision to not fight is totally up to Shane and his doctors, family, coaches and management. I hope he made the decision that is best for his health. It's his dumbass decision to tweet that it was his OPTION to sit out the fight or not that I'm objecting to. If you have to drop out of a fight for health reasons, save the agonizing and second guessing for your private conversations with friends and family. Toe the company line on Twitter.

Regarding “your project should already have a working prototype,” I think that it helps in some cases to have a prototype or some kind of rough mockup, but I don’t think it’s a requirement. I can see a prototype/mockup being helpful to establish a rough idea or give credibility to the team.

But Knight wants to fund innovative ideas, so if your project’s goal is to slightly beef up a working project then I’m not sure that would fly. So there’s a fine line here.

Here are some important updates and clarifications to the above post:

    1) Knight announced four categories this year, not just the three named in the post. They are Mobile, Authenticity, Sustainability and Community. After four years of running the Knight News Challenge, Knight decided to focus attention on these areas this year.

The Mobile category seeks innovative ideas for news and information on all types of mobile communication devices. The Authenticity category offers funding for projects that help people better understand the reliability of news and information sources. The Sustainability category considers new economic models supporting news and information that helps citizens run their communities and their lives. And the Community category seeks groundbreaking technologies that support news and information specifically within defined geographic areas.

In the Community category, a place-based focus is an absolute requirement and entries have to detail in what specific geographic community the media innovation will be tested. For the Mobile, Authenticity and Sustainability categories, the foundation prefers media innovation entries with a community focus. More information is available at

    http://www.knightfoundation.org/news/press_room/knight_press_releases/detail.dot?id=371039

    2) For-profit companies have always been able to participate in the news challenge. Knight continually improves the process, last year making no-interest loans in addition to grants.

There are limits to participation by for-profit companies: If the project involves software, the funded media innovation must result in open source code. That requirement applies to many different types of projects. 2010 grantees include companies building a product from scratch (such as NowSpots real-time ads), creating or rebuilding an open-source version of existing software (Front Porch Forum’s local community product), funding continued product development (Stroome’s collaborative video editing software) and continuing existing open-source work (Stamen Design and DevelopmentSeed).

If a grant is made to a business, both the initial and future releases of the code need to be open source. If a no-interest loan (Program-Related Investment) is made, at least the initial release must be open source. After that initial open release, PRI winners can license future versions in other ways.

    3) Sustainability and existing prototypes may or may not be helpful, for the application process, as it depends on the specific proposal.

Prototypes can be both good or bad, and thus are evaluated accordingly. Knight has funded projects along the entire spectrum of existence. Some grantees, such as Spot.us from 2008 and MediaBugs from 2009, were only ideas before they received their funding. Others — such as the 2010 grantees LocalWiki and Front Porch Forum — had already demonstrated traction in specific localities and were looking to expand their model elsewhere.

As for sustainability, some projects are meant to be limited in duration only, such as the development of an experimental jazz club game at UC Berkeley. Other projects hope to use the Knight grant to kick off a longer-term project that will last past the duration of the grant period, such as DocumentCloud, a 2009 grantee to develop an open-source document handling project. The challenge’s reviewers help Knight look at the different project plans and evaluates those in context.

    4) The contest welcomes content or citizen journalism projects. Innovative content or community reporting models can and do get funded. One example is from 2010, Teru Kuwayama’s basetrack.org, which is an experimental media project tracking the First Battalion of the Eight Marines over the duration of their deployment to Southern Afghanistan, specifically through social media.

During the Hacks and Hackers session from which the original post was created, a question was asked from the audience about what kinds of common problems the reviewers saw. Since innovation is a core value of the contest, traditional content and citizen journalism projects lacking in innovation were generally not looked upon favorably by contest reviewers.

    5) The Knight News Challenge is a continual learning process where everyone, including the foundation, adapts year to year. So what has happened in the past is not necessarily indicative of what will happen in the future. The reviewers, regulations, and grant process change annually. This year for example, the News Challenge has introduced categories. Last year, Knight worked intensively with business, technical and legal experts to develop Program-Related Investments, a significant new development.

At the Hacks and Hackers session, questions were asked about the News Challenge process in the past. Those questions were answered in the specific in an effort to be helpful: The answers I gave were my opinions as one of dozens of reviewers, not the foundation’s official policy, and shouldn’t be applied as such. Reviewers often have conflicting opinions, which makes for healthy debate. In addition, the reviewers are not really “judges,” as their opinions are advisory and the foundation’s trustees make final grant decisions.

    6) One other technical clarification. The original applicant for real-time ads was Brad Flora, who started Windy Citizen in Chicago, but the 2010 grant has now officially been given to NowSpots, a new entity created to develop the ads — open-source, of course.

Knight is excited by the continued wide interest in the News Challenge. Any further questions, please refer to newschallenge.org. Applications can be accepted on Oct. 25 with a deadline of Dec. 1.

benchcraft company portland or

I've been spending a few months looking around for sites that actually pay. To my surprise, I actually found some. Though I can't say I'm getting rich from these. But so far I am making some money on these.

I spent quite a bit of time weeding through sites that may or may not be legit. I'm still scoping out even more. Still in progress and I will be posting them up soon if they are legitimate and do pay out. in mind the sites I do have listed here pay some through PayPal others through Check, and all are Free to join.

Now this one is one of the friendliest places I've been online. For being a Forum the people are nice, helpful, and some Awesome friends are developing from this site.Just join in any conversation or post your own. Each time you get paid and the payout is 9 bucks. The owner of this site is awesome. Just do not post any links. Everyone here is here to have fun, and make a little money.

MoraChat

Now this one is a lot like Mora Chat but it's more interactive. You can add friends join groups and start as many discussions as you want. The same concept. Post, reply, join other conversations, and get Paid. On both of these site I see people making payout every week. I'm not on it as much. But the money can add up quickly if you have to time to do these.

MyLot

This one is a Survey Site as well as many others. Yet another very cool site. There is a lot to do on this one. So far I'm finding the money in this racking up pretty fast. It will send me email letting me know when they have things that pay. Very cool.

My Quick Rewards

And Of Course On of the best I found so far. Pays out every time on time and earns daily. Associated Content. This pays you to publish whatever it is that you love to write about. Even though I totally messed up on my first post. They paid me for it. and now I cannot delete it or edit it. Even though it was an accident but live and learn. But I still love this site. Join Associated Content here!

Associated Content

Now this site here. Not only helps you with your blogging, You can set up your referrals and add your links here. Kinda like a win win situation.

Blog and earn money by your hits. Very cool site.

That's it for now. In case any of these ask who sent you? Tell em DanJ sent you. Hope you enjoy these. I went through a lot to find them. More will be coming soon.Oh if you have any others that I should add. Let me know.

Thank you.
